“You’re driving to Florida? Why not fly?” Several friends have asked me these questions rather incredulously over the last couple of weeks.
“And why not?” I say. Why not, indeed!
I’ve been doing a lot of video work (my current career) in the last couple of months and now it’s time to do some getting back in touch with myself time. I love getting in the car and getting out of Dodge! I have racked up a whole bunch of podcasts from Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me to The Beautiful Writers Podcast to Planet Money as well as several audio books. So, I’ve got lots to keep me entertained while I drive the (only) 18 hours to Florida (and back again).
Along the way, I’ll stop and have lunch with one of my regular work mates and dear, dear friend. I’ll have dinner and a stay over with a dear old college friend and then through my points program have a 3 night stay in Orlando at a Hilton Hotel before jaunting off to Thanksgiving with friends in Tampa and a nice extended visit with my step-dad in Sarasota. It’s a good balance of time on my own to reflect on 2019 and plan for 2020 (lots of fun stuff coming up!) and quality time with some of my most cherished friends and family.
The other bonus about traveling in my car is that I can bring my art supplies along with me. When I fly to Bali, it’s only my watercolors and iPad. But, with the car, I can bring a whole bin of stuff. I have grand plans to play with my supplies. I love to travel and I love to create…so lets see what happens when I travel and create at the same time!
